As consumers prepare for one of the busiest shopping weekends of the year, Michigan small businesses are offering a variety of events and markets to capture some of the holiday rush on Small Business Saturday.
Last year’s Small Business Saturday was the second-highest sales volume day in Michigan after Black Friday, the Michigan Retailers Association said.
However, only 23% of US adults say they plan to do their holiday shopping at small businesses this year, behind destinations such as online at 57%, department stores, grocery stores, discount stores and thrift stores. apparel, National Retail Federation survey. found.
For those shoppers looking for ways to support local businesses this holiday shopping weekend, the Detroit Free Press rounded up Small Business Saturday-themed shopping events happening Saturday. All are in Detroit except for the last event at The Rind in Berkley.
Small Business Saturday in Corktown and Southwest Detroit
Details: More than 20 vendors will be at Fantasma Market & Cafe offering clothing, accessories, food and art at the Detroit Hispanic Development Corp., hosted by Fantasma Market & Cafe in partnership with the Corktown and Southwest Detroit Business Associations. There will also be live performances throughout the day and photo opportunities with Santa.
What you need to know: Admission is free to the event, which runs from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Parking is available near Fantasma Market & Cafe, and free shuttle buses will run from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. between Southwest Detroit and Corktown, where attendees can visit area shops and holiday pop-up shops at the Station Central Michigan. Fantazma Market & Cafe is located at 1211 Trumbull St.

Grand River Vacations
Details: A dozen local businesses will set up shop at Grandmont Rosedale Development Corp.’s Grand River Vacation. There will also be food trucks offering everything from cinnamon rolls to seafood and lemonade, a holiday-themed reading and poetry session at 3 p.m., a live musical performance at 5 p.m., and a lighting ceremony of the Christmas tree at 6 p.m.
What you need to know: The activity takes place from 15:00 to 19:00. Admission is free. The address is 19800 Grand River Ave. and parking is available along the Grand River.

Shop the Retailer’s Market
Details: Shop for clothing, accessories, candles, skincare and art at Detroit Sip, a coffee shop in northwest Detroit. The first 75 customers will receive a coupon code.

The reopening of the coup d’état
Details: After womenswear boutique Coup D’état’s New Center store closed this summer, it will reopen Saturday with a Small Business Saturday celebration that includes live music at its new location in Lantern, a former – commercial oven that has been redeveloped into a mixed oven. space on Detroit’s east side.

Saturday market for small business in the congregation
Details: A variety of crafts and craft items will be available for purchase in Fellowship Hall, the lower level of the Congregation. Get double reward points for every purchase made at cafes throughout the market and there will be free live music throughout the event.

Rind’s Artist & Maker Pop-up
Details: A curated selection of handmade goods from four local small businesses, including fine art prints, ceramics, jewelry, paintings and home goods, will be for sale at The Rind, a farm-to-table restaurant and wine bar that located inside Monger’s Provisions in Berkley. The event is moderated by Elizabeth Isakson-Dado of Aquarius House, a typesetting and writing studio in Berkley.
During the event, Monger’s Provisions will be open for purchase and will feature a pop-up from Birmingham bakery Death by Pastry. Rind will be open for lunch and bar service.
